Chemical Recycling of WEEE Plastics—Production of High Purity Monocyclic Aromatic Chemicals

More than 200 kg real waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) shredder residues from a German dismantling plant were treated at 650 °C in demonstration scale thermochemical conversion plant. The focus within this work was the generation, purification, analysis of pyrolysis oil. Subsequent filtration fractional distillation combined to yield basic chemicals high purity. By means distillation, pure monocyclic aromatic fractions containing benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX aromatics) as well styrene ?-methyl isolated for chemical recycling. Mass balances determined, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) measurements provided data on purity halogen content each fraction. This shows that subsequent refining by is capable recycling WEEE residues, producing BTEX other fractions. A significant decrease (up 99%) achieved with applied methods.
